How Much Do Custom Military Unit Shirts Cost?

by Stacy Gentile on October 05, 2026

Pricing custom military unit shirts starts with a better question than “What does one shirt cost?” Ask: “What will our complete order cost, delivered, with the garment and artwork we actually want?” A 50-shirt order with a small chest print is not the same job as 100 shirts with front, back, and sleeve artwork.

Veteran Shirts prices custom orders by quote rather than one universal per-shirt rate. Quantity, garment choice, print locations, artwork, and the required date all help define the job. Here is how to build a useful budget before you collect money from the unit.

The 861st Engineers Kismayo unit shirt shows how chest and sleeve details can work together. Its individual retail price is not a quote for a new custom bulk order.

What determines the price of custom unit shirts?

1. How many shirts you need

Give the printer a realistic quantity, not just the unit's headcount. Some people will want two shirts; others may not order. Veteran Shirts recommends a minimum of 24 shirts for custom orders, with the best bulk pricing at 50 or more. Ask for a quote at your expected quantity and one sensible alternative before choosing the order size.

2. The shirt itself

A basic tee, a heavier shirt, and a hoodie are different products. Specify the garment type, preferred color, and any fabric or fit requirements. Include the size breakdown and ask whether any sizes change the price. Otherwise, two quotes that look comparable may be based on different garments.

3. Where the artwork goes

A small front design, a large back design, and sleeve prints create different production requirements. List every requested location in the quote request. If the budget is tight, ask for two versions: the complete design and a simpler layout that keeps the unit's main identity intact. Our unit shirt design guide can help you decide what belongs on the front, back, and sleeves.

4. What artwork is ready

Send the best files you have, along with the exact wording and any required insignia details. Tell us whether the art is ready to use or needs design help. Ask the quote to identify any artwork or setup charges rather than assuming they are included or free. Only provide artwork you have permission to use.

5. When and where the order is needed

Give the actual in-hand date and delivery destination. A reunion, deployment-related event, or unit function has a deadline that matters more than a ship date. Veteran Shirts confirms timing for each quote; do not assume rush service or a particular arrival date. Production begins after payment and mockup approval, so leave time for the group's decision-making too.

Should you order 50 or 100 unit shirts?

Request both quantities using the same garment and print layout. Compare the full order totals as well as the price per shirt. A lower unit price is not automatically a better purchase if the extra shirts have no confirmed buyers.

  • For 50 shirts: confirm the committed orders, sizes, and whether a small reserve is needed.
  • For 100 shirts: check that the larger quantity reflects real demand, not just a hoped-for discount.
  • For future reorders: ask whether the same garment, artwork, minimum, and pricing would apply. Do not assume the first quote carries forward unchanged.

Compare the delivered cost, not just the headline price

Use this calculation once you have a written quote:

Delivered cost per shirt = total order cost, including applicable charges, divided by the number of shirts.

Ask whether the total includes the garments, every print location, artwork or setup, any size-related charges, shipping, and applicable tax. Avoid adding a charge twice if it is already included. Compare quotes using identical specifications; a cheaper front-only print does not replace a front-and-back order.

What to send for an accurate custom shirt quote

  • Unit or organization name and the person coordinating the order.
  • Expected quantity, plus an alternative quantity if you want a comparison.
  • Garment type, color, and estimated sizes.
  • Front, back, and sleeve print requirements.
  • Artwork files or a clear description of the design help needed.
  • Delivery destination, required in-hand date, and budget target.

Before collecting payments, get the final specifications and total confirmed. Then use our military unit shirt ordering checklist to organize sizes, approvals, and the order handoff.
